It has been a while since the events of X-Men: The Last Stand. Logan (Hugh Jackman-wolverine), the honorable yet brutal warrior of the mutant tremendous team, has grown disenchanted with life and is living in the wilderness of Canada. Haunted by memories of his missing love Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), the loner serves as a victim of his own immortality. He has all the time in the world, however nothing left to live for.

Without a doubt, everything is not similar to it seems. And it is not long before Logan is caught up in family politics involving Yashida's heirs: fiery son Shingen (Hiroyuki Sanada) as well as charming granddaughter Mariko (Tao Okamato). After Yakuza goons put together an effort to kidnap Mariko, Logan rescues her and finds new purpose in preserving her protected. As they camp out in hiding, the 2 fall for each other and he's ready to find relief in sharing his past to her. But harmony doesn't endure for long as Mariko is ultimately swift away from him, leading the Wolverine to give chase and track her down by any means necessary.
This is not to say that The Wolverine lacks explosiveness. There's sufficient wrestling and chases in all areas of those previously mentioned 1st 2/3, and a little too much of it in the ultimate act. It's in the last act at which Mangold slips a bit, digressing back again into a standard Marvel piece bulky on smoke as well as mirrors instead of genuine substance. But Marvel's smoke and mirrors still outdazzle the majority of its competition from any given movie night and viewers will not be let down here.
