So 3 years in the film has earned itself a sequel when you appear in the form of Kick-Ass 2, and even though this time around there are changes both behind-the-scenes and onscreen. Helmer Matthew Vaughn takes a producing credit, with Jeff Wadlow – whose previous credits include Cry Wolf, Never Back Down – now scripting and directing.
Plus into the film itself the characters have grown up, even though they haven’t really matured. Indeed, at the beginning of the film, the costumed triumvirate in the heart for this story are struggling to find their places on the go.
Yet while there are great scenes peppered when it comes to Kick-Ass, film 2 lacks something when it comes to spark of this original. A sequel by its very nature will lack the freshness and originality of the predecessor, but part two never quite manages to escape the shadow associated with brilliant first.
So while it’s still a blast, it isn’t quite the genre classic so it had the alternative to be. But there’s still much to enjoy in Kick-Ass 2, the series remaining a brutal blast of foul-mouthed superhero fun, and a welcome relief through the many serious and po-faced comic book movies which have hit screens of late.

While it doesn't reach the dizzy heights of their predecessor, Kick-Ass 2 is nevertheless a hugely entertaining comic boom movie that's funnier and nastier than your average superhero flick.
